Annual Leave

Dear Memoir,

Hmm.. just remembered that she has to clear her balance of last year's leave (7 days) by end of August. Today is already 17th August... Boss will be clearing his leave the next 4 days.. which leaves her just next week to apply for her leave if she doesn't want them to be forfeited).

The problem is.. she does not need the leave.. not yet. The 'Eid' or raya itself seems like a long Public Holiday.. Wonder if this year, it will be different. No quarreling, no hasty words.. Just a calm and peaceful raya..

Ooo.. stop thinking negatively. One step at the time. Firstly, just fill up the forms so that Boss will not be bugging you on them. Something surely will come up near to the date. :) Who knows.. and this year might be a better one as she has got her license. :) Who knows, right? :) The important thing is to have completed the fasting month and gain God's blessings.

There. Finish and submitted the forms at last.

The Choices

I was reading Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice' and it triggers a thought. The verse goes as below :

If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh?
If you poison us, do we not die?
And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?
If we are like you in all the rest, we will do the same as you in that also.
The villainy you teach me, I will return it back to you.
It shall go hard but I will better the instruction! Two times harder!

How true those words are.
If someone pricks you with a needle, you bleed. What makes some people think that if they prick us, we do not feel anything? Because they do not think. Full stop.
Some people are just insensitive to the feelings of others.

In your whole life, have you ever been a victim of a scam? Been unfairly treated? Been left or simply just been harassed by someone? Of course, there must be a time when you have been hurt by an act or by words. There's 2 ways in handling the hurt: Revenge and Forgiveness.

Firstly, there's Revenge with a capital 'R'.
When you can't get an apology or even repentance from the person, and the justice system fails, the thought of revenge increases until it becomes an obsession. You start to plan your retaliation. Questions such as, "What to do? And how to do it?" start to pop up in your head. You hurt me, I'll hurt you back. I feel pain, so must you. An eye for an eye. Revenge is only to liberate yourself from a degrading treatment. One can't lay down and accept all the abuse caused by bullies everywhere.

Good luck then on your quest to get even with someone. (take a look at The Avengers). Word of advice: if you are determined to have your revenge, you should be ready to accept any consequences of your act. Why? Things might get out of hand or the plan might backfired. Or you might suffer pangs of guilt your whole life if it was discovered after the prank that everything was just a stupid misunderstanding. If everything turns out accordingly to plan, you'll feel happy ..that is until the other person decided to attack you back.

The second way is just to keep your silence. Vengeance does not belong to humankind. It's hard to stay calm or not to do anything when someone hurts you. Instinct and a whisper from the devil would make you want to take the 1st way. But..things do happen for a reason, don't they? I always believe in the boomerang effect. Maybe I have done something bad in the first place and this is the effect of it. To forgive is easy, but to forget is another thing.

I am trying to be more patient (unbelievable..but true) and not to care too much. Time to cool down the Aries fire and not rushing into things. Trying to be like an oak tree (standing still) instead of the ever restless and sensitive cat. Have traded her pumping heart with one made of granite. More durable, unbreakable and emotion proof, hopefully. Silence makes a much better music for the soul. Words can be hurtful, just like breaking an egg. An egg once broken, remains broken.

When Age Catches Up

Cat was reading an article by Effendy Azmi Hashim where he was remembering his younger days when the video recorder was a new phenomena here. As a result, everyone was seeking his help in programming a show.

That was the good old days, wasn't it. (soft smile). Usually, kids were supposedly 'only to be seen and not to be heard'. The elders were to be respected and whatever they say, are to be followed and no questions allowed. The elders are the wise ones and we were just 'too young'.

Somehow, when the information age arrives, we suddenly became the 'hero' saving our elders from wrongly taping the wrong programs on VCD (putting on tape a cooking show instead of the much awaited horror movie). Not only that..we were much sought after just to set the correct time on the digital screen. How smug and pleased we felt at that time! The elders do not know everything! There are things that we youngsters could teach them! :p As Effendy says, it was as if the electronic products were created by kids for kids!

Alas, payback time is here. As the world became more and more advanced in technology, newer products were invented. The pace in which these gadjets were introduced in the market were also quite fast. Do tell cat..do you really have the time to read and take note of what new product is 'in' and which is 'out'? As we get older, we spent more time at work, reading specific articles or magazines that is linked to our current job that we sometimes do not even have time to read the newspapers. Reading novels? You are lucky if you can finish 2 pages before falling asleep after a tiring day at the office..zzzzz

Kids are a wizard at this as they do have more time to read, google and tinkle with the so called 'MP3', 'MP4' and now 'MP5'. (Hmm.. is there already an MP6?). There's the I-pod, the blackberry (which boss is always confusing the name with blueberry :p yucks!). Nowadays, even a 7 year old kid knows how to create a 'blog'! and also to edit beautiful photos, to 'bing' and 'youtube' a videoclip. Just imagine, a seven year old kid showing you how to play a video game and to use a new device!

Well, I know. You are asking why on earth does this 'adult' not looking at a small little book that comes enclosed with the so called new device? The answer is :
1) Cat just do not have the patience to go through that little book with it's chapters and indexes on how just to get the device to show green light that informs you that it is ready to be used? Grr.. the photo really seems so simple.
And once, you manage to get it to switched on, why is it not printing anything?

How time has changed and has finally caught up with some of us (minus out those IT people who gets away with anything that has numbers on it!:p) The more things were said to be fully automatic, the more complicated it is to set it up. That is also why , cat always make sure that the salesperson is there to set up the thing as much as he can and waited patiently as he runs everything 2 times for cat! :p Just to be double sure on the instructions. So that she will not have to resort to asking anyone under her height on how to operate even a simple thing like a digital camera.

That is the problem with today: You would want the latest thing in the market (so that you will not be left out) but then you just used the basic functions because you just do not know how to use the rest of them and you are not willing to ask a younger person:p Cruel world!

Signing off,
A tired cat..trying to read a manual on how to operate a printer and praying that it will occupy her whole mind and make her fall asleep tonight. How she misses looking at the stars at night.

Green with Envy

It seems that the holiday mood has set in everywhere in blogger land. It's the school holidays for Malaysian & Singaporean. Singapore has it for 1 month (starting 29 May till 27 June) and followed by a 2 weeks holiday for Malaysians (5th -20th June 2010).

Everyone seems to be going somewhere and there seems to be more silences when you go blog walking these few days. Green with envy... :p (small laughter)..wish cat would be going somewhere too. But, duty must come first. Hoteliers , same as policemen, same as firemen, same as nurses and doctors: We are open 24 hours 7 days a week. (Laughing) In reality, it's cat's own fault. Everyone has opened their leave forms much much earlier. She was always submitting her forms last minute as 1)she doesn't know when to take the leaves and 2)she doesn't have anywhere specific to go.

People are taking this school holidays as an opportunity to 'BALIK KAMPUNG' or in english means going back to their hometown for a rest. This girl just doesn't have any roots:p.. doesn't have any village or hometown to go to. How pitiful it sounds, doesn't it? She knows, why don't she just go on holiday somewhere, go to a beach, to the other places.. Well, complicated to explain :) human as well as time factor.

How does a girl get rid of the color green that is clouding her view at the moment? (smile). Is it really green? Or is it more like blue? The color is almost the same at this hour. Blue because she would not be able to get news for days. It's easy in daytime, as she would be on the move, working, settling problems, seeing guests, checking reports. But night time is quite the opposite. When all is quiet and no physical activity is needed.. the heart takes control. How lonely it feels

Guess she will take this time to follow up on her reading and updating things. Writing? Maybe yes, maybe no. :) Maybe she would just have a rest. Just taking the time to chat and talk to friends. Just enjoy the after working hours, doing nothing. Looking at the rain and stars, talking and enjoying each day. Maybe being alone does have it's good points too. Yes... will take some time to rest. :)

P/S: She was determined to seriously take pictures or photos like TK or Nensa was doing. But each time, she saw an interesting topic or view, she always forgot to snap a pix. Too involved and too much enjoying the experience that each time, she simply forgot. Sigh..guess she still need to depend on her photographic mind to describe things. Bon vacances and drive carefully to all those Balik Kampung.

To Love

A lover gives hope when life is low
A lover is a place when you have nowhere to go

To love and be loved unconditionally..

Never in Life

In life,
Some people live a long life
Some people die young
Some will give up
Some will keep on trying
Some will say hi
Some only say goodbye
Some will forget you
But..
Never will I..

April Fool

Have you ever had a day that you just wished that you have not woke up. Well, today is just that day for me. Waking up with a jolt as if you have just dropped from a great height, the eyes wide open and the heart beating like crazy. For a second, you just don't know where you are.

Opening one eye..then another. That bunch of flowers looks familiar. Oh, I am in the bedroom. Hmm.. what is that ray of light doing there, on the flowers? Ray of light? Light? God! It's daytime already! Rushing to the office, cat had a nagging feeling that I have forgotten something...something about today.

What day is it? Looking at the calender..Hmm, it's Thursday, 1st April 2010. End of the month already. Time to start the end of the month reports and collect a 50% deposit for a company's function is May.. That seems all for today. Alas, there's a circle on that date and the word 'Alert'..what is that for? Hmm.. that nagging feeling of something is bound to happen still persists. And as the day moved along, cat then knew. This is the day that I dreaded: April Fool!

*********************************

April Fool is a day celebrated in various countries by the using of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the unsuspected (and one of it is me! Imagine getting tricked 4 times today! :p Ouch..sometimes a I am just too trusting).

But it seems that I  am not the only April Fool'ed' victim. Below is a list of all the pranks imaginable:

a)U2 Live on Rooftop in Cork:
In 2009 hundreds of U2 fans were duped in an elaborate prank when they rushed to a shopping center in Blackpool in Cork believing that the band were playing a surprise rooftop concert. The prank was organized by Cork radio station RedFM. The band were in fact just a tribute band called U2opia.

b) Cellphone Ban :
In New Zealand, radio station 'Edge's Morning Madhouse' enlisted the help of the Prime Minister on April 1st to inform the entire country that cellphones are to be banned in New Zealand. Hundreds of callers rang in to complain on the new law.

c) Google Copernicus Center
Fictitious job opportunities were announced for a research center on the moon. Luna/X (a pun to Linux)a new operating system they claimed to have created for working at the research center.

d)UFO with an alien landed on March 31, 1989 in London
Local residents were terrified. A brave officer who approach it also ran away when he saw a small, silver-suited figure emerging from the door of the object that popped open suddenly. The alien turned out to be Richard Branson, the 36-year-old chairman of Virgin Records and his craft was specially designed hot-air-balloon that was destined to land in London's Hyde Park on April 1. However, due to a change in wind direction, he was forced to land in the field a day before.

e) On 1st of April, 1998, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Students hacked MIT's homepage and placed an announcement on it that the prestigious university was being sold to Walt Disney for $6.9 billion. The University would be dismantled and reconstructed in Orlando with an addition of special Disney schools in the campus such as the School of Imagineering, the Scrooge McDuck School of Management, and the Donald Duck Department of Linguistics. There was a photograph too in which the university's famous dome had been fitted with a pair of mouse ears.

f) A year after Ochoco creek was flooded and hundreds of houses were damaged in 1998, DJs at Oregon radio station KSJJ announced that the Ochoco dam had burst and there were strong chances of all the nearby areas being flooded. There was widespread panic and as people prepared to flee. DJs admitted it was just a joke. But no one was amused by the prank.
***********************************

Well, somehow you just managed to get through the day :).
Like what a friend of mine with the same predicament said: It's not as if you have a choice. Maybe this will get better, maybe they will not. Sometimes things also happen that make you feel ridiculously happy to be alive. This is the stuff you live for. That's the thing about being a human being: You just have to go on living :)

The first of April, some do say, Is set apart for All Fool's Day; But why the people call it so; Nor I, nor they themselves, do know, But on this day are people sent; On purpose for pure merriment. - Anonymous-

Happy April Fool Day
